Bush got two shoes at the head when his Farewell World Tour played a date in Iraq. He ducked away from the missiles well and retained all his remaining dignity.

Check out Al-Maliki though! “Ho hum, whatcha gonna do?”

The shoe-ter is 28-year-old Muntader al-Zaidi,  a TV journo for Al Baghadia, an Iraqi TV  station. He had this to say as he launched the attack: “This is a farewell kiss, dog.”

Here‘s a translated version of Al Baghadia’s view on the story.

Here are pics of him at work, journalisting on TV. He looks really normal! (Love him in those Palinesque rimless glasses!)

Bush’s reaction later:

Mr Bush: The other shoe just dropped. Look, I’m going to be thinking of shoe jokes for a long time. I haven’t heard any good ones yet.

No. The best one is the one that just happened:

A sad update:

Al-Zaidi is a 28-year-old journalist for Al Baghdadia, and Iraqi TV station. So what exactly is the penalty for throwing a shoe at Dubya?

[Iraqi Prime Minister] Maliki’s security agents jumped on the man, wrestled him to the floor and hustled him out of the room. They kicked him and beat him until “he was crying like a woman,” said Mohammed Taher, a reporter for Afaq, a television station owned by the Dawa Party, which is led by Mr. Maliki. Mr. Zaidi was then detained on unspecified charges.

Okay! And you can only imagine how his day is going today. It can only get worse. Sure, making Bush hit the deck twice on live TV is worth an ass whupping. But probably not worth a dozen years in an Iraqi prison while being tortured.

More, much more on Al-Zaidi’s wiki entry. He was once kidnapped you know!

I like the comma in American headlines, I think England needs it.

  1. I think they both deserve some credit… al Zaidi for his two goal-bound hush-puppy lobs under pressure (esp. the second one) and Bush for good bob and weave skills.

  2. It is sad to see the leader of one’s country treated this way. But Bush has had lots of practice . . . ducking out of the Reserves . . . ducking out of a DUI . . . so it’s a shock but not a surprise.
